Fourteen Day Average Incidence Rate in the Town of Barnstable
The average daily incidence rate has significantly decreased in the Town of Barnstable to an average of 4.5 new cases per day in the Town of Barnstable.

Hospitalizations Reported By Cape Cod Healthcare
Yesterday, Cape Cod Healthcare reported there were a total of five (5) patients who were being treated for COVID-19 at Cape Cod Hospital (zero COVID-19 patients at Falmouth Hospital).  One of the five patients was in the intensive care unit yesterday.  

Hospitalizations in Massachusetts
According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, on Wednesday March 9, 2022, there were at total of 290 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts.  Of those 290 patients, 168 patients (58%) were reported to be fully vaccinated for COVID -19 when they contracted COVID-19.  

Deaths of Massachusetts Residents During the Past Week
There were a total of 22 new, confirmed deaths of Massachusetts residents during the past week.  The average age of death was 76 years old.  Beginning on Monday March 14, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) will update the criteria used for identifying COVID-19 deaths to align with guidance from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists.  Currently, the COVID death definition includes anyone who has COVID listed as a cause of death on their death certificate, and any individual who has had a COVID-19 diagnosis within 60 days but does not have COVID listed as a cause of death on their death certificate. The updated definition reduces this timeframe from 60 days to 30 days for individuals without a COVID diagnosis on their death certificate.

Cumulative Total Number of Cases & Cumulative Total Number of Deaths
A cumulative total of 9,189 Town of Barnstable residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 to date.  In Barnstable County, there have been a total of 34,532 confirmed cases and a total of 680 deaths cumulatively; this includes six (6) additional deaths in Barnstable County during the past seven days.  The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported there have been a cumulative total of 1,547,487 positive cases in the State of Massachusetts and 22,966 deaths from COVID-19 in the State.  In the United States overall, according to the John Hopkins University, there have been 79,455,163 positive Covid-19 patients cumulatively to date, resulting in 965,466 total deaths nationwide as of this morning, March 11th at 8:01 a.m.

Vaccinations of Barnstable County Residents
Ninety-six percent (96%) of our Barnstable County residents who were eligible to receive vaccinations (ages 5 and older) received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine   Eighty-four (84%) of our age- eligible (ages 5 and older) residents are fully vaccinated.  Our local vaccination percentage rates continue to be one of the highest compared to other Massachusetts communities.

Booster Vaccinations
Fifty-nine percent (59%) of our fully vaccinated Barnstable County residents received a booster dose.  In Massachusetts overall, 54% of those fully vaccinated have received a booster dose, compared to 44% of the national population.
