Incidence Rate in the Town of Barnstable

The average daily COVID-19 incidence rate of Town of Barnstable residents, calculated from case reports received during the past fourteen days, slightly decreased  to an average of 6.8 new cases per day (see right side of graph above).

Case Counts

Town of Barnstable:  11,810 total cases (positive residents) cumulatively to date, 95 new cases during the last two weeks. 

Barnstable County:  46,102 cases cumulatively to date resulting in 684 deaths of Barnstable County residents.   

Massachusetts:  1,929,736 cases of State of Massachusetts residents cumulatively to date, resulting in 20,833 confirmed deaths,

United States:  According to John Hopkins University, there have been a total of 98,562,304 positive COVID-19 cases cumulatively in the United States resulting in 1,079,196 deaths nationwide as of November 26th.

Hospitalizations 

Barnstable County:  Cape Cod Healthcare reported to us on November 23rd there were a total of seventeen (17) patients who were being treated for COVID-19 at Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals.  None of the seventeen patients were in an intensive care unit (ICU) on that date. 

Massachusetts:  According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, on November 22nd there were a total of 179 patients primarily hospitalized for COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.  In total, there were 562 patients hospitalized with COVID -19.  Of those 562 patients, 370 patients (66%) were reported to be fully vaccinated when they contracted COVID-19.  There were 64 patients in intensive care units (ICU’s) and 18 patients were intubated. 

United States Hospitalizations’ Predictions:  This week’s national ensemble predicts that the number of new daily confirmed COVID-19 hospital admissions will remain stable or have an uncertain trend, with 1,100 to 9,600 new confirmed COVID-19 hospital admissions likely reported on December 16, 2022.

Deaths

Barnstable County Deaths:  There were eight (8) deaths of Barnstable County residents during the past week.  

Massachusetts Deaths:  There were sixty-four (64) new, confirmed deaths of Massachusetts residents during the past seven days.  The average age of death was 81 years old.

United States Deaths’ Predictions: This week’s national ensemble predicts that the number of newly reported COVID-19 deaths will remain stable or have an uncertain trend over the next 4 weeks, with 1,000 to 3,800 new deaths likely reported in the week ending December 17, 2022. The national ensemble predicts that a total of 1,083,000 to 1,091,000 COVID-19 deaths will be reported by this date.

Vaccination and Booster Status/ Barnstable County Residents

Eighty percent (80%) of the Barnstable County residents are fully vaccinated.  Sixty-five percent (65%) of Barnstable County residents received booster doses after being fully vaccinated, compared to 61% of the Massachusetts population. 

COVID-19 Community Level Designation & Prevention Steps

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to classify Barnstable County as being at a low COVID-19 community level.   Community levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital admissions and the total number of COVID-19 cases in an area.
