Barnstable County jail is not allowing visitors or volunteers inside the facility due to COVID-19, and all programs for inmates from outside organizations has stopped.
No visitors or volunteers are allowed inside the facility, and all programs for inmates from outside organizations has stopped, effective late last week until further notice.
The facility, which normally accepts prisoners from local police departments for holding until they appear in court, has ceased doing so. The correctional facility will continue to take prisoners sent there by a judge, but will no longer take those, for instance, who were arrested on the Cape on a Friday and need to be held somewhere other than a police station until an arraignment early the next week.
The sheriff’s office also has halted community service and work-release programs outside the facility.
